HBO's Naval battle sequence

To really bring to life this navel battle HBO’s team built a full scale long ship along with the first half of another long ship, they set up green screens 60 feet high as the where filming in a car park in Ireland it had to be a 360 set up. At the start of the battle the main ship is hit with a sort of fireball which destroys the mast of the ship and sets fire to serval stuntmen and parts of the ship overall, to really sell this they created ember guns that would burst out embers every couple seconds, fire is still one of the hardest elements to replicate so they had real fire that would burn on a wax and later in post they would remove the wax and size up the fire, for the mast they had a drop rigs that would collapse onto the ship. During the battle the villain Euron greyjoy fires burning projectiles at Yara’s crew, that effect is just a flares on a wires.
