Tucana rotoscoping
Today we were given a rotoscoping exercise, we had to roto a Tucana it was more to see how exactly we would go about it. Watching through the video there were certain points that seemed difficult, as the Tucana turns it head the beak faces directly at the camera and the right eye is obscured there was also a little tuff of hair that at first was hidden. I started off by playing the clip through a couple of times then added a Roto node and cut around the body of the Tucana, I skipped to every 5,10,15 and 20. I highlighted the nodes and enlarges or scaled down the node that, I did this because it saves time instead of going through every frame and moving the nodes.
After completing the body I moved onto the neck which I did in two parts the left/middles side and the second part was the right side, I also did the head in two parts because the left side goes from being obscured to exposed fully so I found that if placed a node just under they left eye and it slow expanded that worked better.
The whole process for me over all it wasn’t difficult exercise it took longer than expected but that all ways happen when your rooting something, Saint said that visual effect companies have a saying for any future employees who want to get into rotoscoping “make sure to bring a full iPod”. There were some points where I had to delete the node and start again but that was only for the right eye and hair tuff, with both of these I just placed the nodes in the wrong place and they got a bit moulded with my other lines.
After finishing my edit, I rendered it out in three different formats one with my roto lines, my own edit and finally with an overlay colour.
