For are guest lecture was marked a special occasion for him as he was an x NUA student, his name is Rob Harvey creative director at Lola. Overall it was a great talk as it was a change as he had seen the VFX industry grow and develop over the years which meant he was more experienced than previous talks.

Rob Harvey was one of the first British VFX artist to win an Oscar.

Large production house tend to bring in free lancer for specific scenes/ effects, Lola likes to bring them in from start to finish.

At the moment London is great for VFX and the industry should keep growing but due to Trump and brexit the future is unclear who these event will play out but if you have a passport and are willing to travel then its a different story as if your work is good enough companies will higher you.

One of there latest project was a biblical BBC drama that required them to build a full scale 3D render of Journalism, they even had to create the mountain range, terrain and people in the city. This city later on allowed them to re-purpose it for several project, most notably the BBC fantasy A midsummer nights dream Lola completed 300 shots.

Gladiator

At the time visual effects budgets was a fairly new concept also to take into account Ridley Scott wasn't as well know as he is now so they didn't have a lot of money for the VFX so Ridley Scott and the VFX supervisors only used it for establishing shots, battles and the coliseum scenes.Which in my option is when VFX and CGI work best is when there blend in with real footage as that way it can be integrated and people cant tell the differences.

Total VFX shots= 80

Total GCI shots= 30
