Toady we learnt about cinema in the 1910 which was the start of visual effect, arguably the grand father of visual effects was George melies, Started of as a stage magician and illusionist but when he saw what the Lumière brothers had invented a cimatographe he was just a member of the audiences, after the show he tried to buy one of there machines but they turned him down. George wanted to be apart of the moving picture. He designed and build his own machine and in April 4th 1896 he had his first screening. With this success he was able to create more films and build some amazing sets (for those days) His films had a wide range of genres such as fantasy and drama. My favourite film of his is A trip to the moon, even though the film is very simple its got a lot of creativity and the fact that to this day we still make films about space is what makes this film so special.

Are homework was to look up a film before the 1910 that shows say something about society in that time.

Frankenstein by Searle dawley an American director and screen writer best know for Frankenstein although he has done around 181 films (according to his IMD page). I chose Frankenstein because it deals with life and death and the idea of a scientist playing at god is something that people still enjoy to this day, It was the 1st horror movie of its time at the time a lot of films including this one were filmed as a play with painted background and the actors facing the audiences, what Searle did different was he showed the creation of the monster by playing the footage backwards and using strings, He also cast a well known stage actor Charles Stanton Ogle to play the monster, the film also featured its own soundtrack.
